The Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art, renowned for its dedication to preserving and showcasing LGBTQIA+ art, recently underwent a significant office makeover to better reflect its vibrant mission and support its staff's creativity. This transformation included the specification of Humanscale's World Chair, an ergonomic and inspiring choice that aligns with the museum's values and needs.

Championing Inclusivity and Creativity

The Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art, located in SoHo, New York City, is the only museum in the world exclusively dedicated to LGBTQIA+ art. Founded by Charles Leslie and Fritz Lohman in 1969, the museum started as an exhibition of gay artists in their loft and has grown to house over 30,000 works by pioneering queer artists. The museum's mission is to exhibit and preserve LGBTQIA+ art and foster the artists who create it, serving as a platform for artistic exploration through multi-faceted queer perspectives.

The Office Makeover

The office renovation was spearheaded by the museum's Executive Director, Alyssa Nitchun, in collaboration with Farrow & Ball and designer Christopher John Rogers. The goal was to create a space that not only supports the museum's administrative functions but also inspires creativity and reflects the museum's colorful and inclusive ethos.

A key component of the office makeover was the selection of ergonomic furniture to ensure the comfort and well-being of the museum's staff. Humanscale's World Chair was chosen for its advanced ergonomic features, which include a tri-panel mesh backrest providing custom lumbar support and a weight-sensitive recline mechanism that adapts to each user. This chair not only supports physical health but also aligns with the museum's commitment to sustainability and minimalism, as it is designed with fewer parts and recyclable materials.

Transformational Impact

The newly designed offices have significantly uplifted the morale and productivity of the museum staff. According to Nitchun, the refreshed space now serves as a hub of imagination and creativity, essential for the museum's team and the artists and stakeholders who visit. The ergonomic World Chair by Humanscale plays a crucial role in this setup, offering the necessary support for long hours of work while seamlessly blending into the office's modern aesthetic .
