  • PURE COMFOIRT
This chair provides the greatest comfort without the pretension of meaningless extra functions. Add the outstanding customer service when replacing parts and you have an all-around enjoyable experience.

  • Perfect Chair
This chair is perfect for our agents. It helps with back support and is very comfortable and is a must have chair for everyone!

  • Perfect chair
First, I really appreciate how Humanscale waited a few months after I bought the chair to contact me for a review. You just don't see that kind of common sense in companies these days. I've tried many chairs from companies that profess they know comfort, but this chair is by far the only chair to sit in all day if you need to and stand up again pain free. Thank you for that. It's adjustable in places that make sense. When I don't want the hand rests, I can get them out of my way. When my back needs a stretch, I gently push and the chair moves with me, supporting my lower back. It's light, slim, easy to move -- even on a rug and absolutely gorgeous. Thank you.

  • A chair you can benefit from.
I have had my human scale Freedom Headrest since 2007. This chair has been a Godsent for me. Being disabled from an accident at work, seating had become an issue. I have had numerous chairs over the years, all of which agrvated my injuries. That is until I purchased the Freedom chair. Human Scale has stood by this chair. After owning this chair, the arms failed. I emailed Human Scale and they took down the serial number and told me it was still under warntee. I was prepared to pay for the parts. 10 years and they replaced the arms at no cost to me. That speaks volumes for their reputation. Thank you so much for making this product, and standing behind it! Sincerely, David B Jacksonville, Florida

  • It is amazing
I wasn't sure if I should get the chair with the Headrest as the one I have in the company office is the standard one. I was amazed how comfortable it is. I am programmer and recline a lot while coding. This provides perfect support.

  • The only chair you will ever need to buy!
As a chronic back sufferer there are good days and there are some very bad days. I have found just after 30 minutes on my Freedom chair makes my pains go away. I can't say enough about the quality and craftsmanship of the chair. Just get one and you too will be a believer.

  • I don't have one but I'm sure it rocks
I do, however have a Freedom task chair which I recently purchased replacement armrests for. Customer service was excellent!

  • Essential for any job I take-I bring it with me
I have had scoliosis surgery, I have herniated discs-allover regular back problems. This chair fits my body like a glove and gives support everywhere it's needed. We actually had an office ergonomics professional come in and do my height/weight and recommend this chair. It has been moved a few times over some long distances and the wheels are fine. I've had the chair about 10+ years. I came into work this Monday and the custodian had shoved it under my desk. When I pulled the chair out, there was a rip in the arm material. I just casually looked up the website to see if I could figure out if it was vinyl or if I could glue it and low and behold the arms are STILL under warranty. Lisa (via chat) had me smiling ear to ear. Can't say enough about the quality of the product and the customer service. Buy it-you'll be happy you invested in your body.

  • The most AMAZING chair!
I bought this chair well over a decade now, & it's still going strong. It really is what other chairs only aspire to. Just like they say, it's simplicity is both its beauty & its function. You won't be disappointed.

  • Great Chair
Chair works perfectly for my height 6.3' Tried different chairs before and this works best for my body.

  • Amazing chair!
I suffer from lower back pain and have worked my way through many chairs -- the kneeling chair, the exercise ball chair, a mesh super adjustable "techy" chair. It wasn't until I bought the humanscale freedom headrest chair that I found a chair I could use all day long.
    Sean C.
  • The Mercedes of chairs!
I ordered this chair for my home workspace because I had developed tendonitis in both shoulders from sitting at my computer day in and day out on an ordinary dining room chair. Now, thanks to the chair (and a lot of physical therapy), my condition has improved markedly, and every time I take a seat, I feel ensconced in luxury and comfort.

  • The HumanScale chairs are fantastic. Everyone in our office has a Freedom or Freedom Headrest and loves them. The HumanScale Liberty chairs in our conference room look great and are comfortable and easy to adjust.

  • Comfortable support all day
I work at the computer 50-60 hours a week so having a quality chair is incredibly important...and the freedom chair is great. I've used a handful of other chairs but I like this one the best. I have the tall stool option w/ headrest and sliding armrest option (outward/inward) and couldn't be happier. Everything can be adjusted to make sitting all day very comfortable. The price tag is pretty high but well worth it for all day sitting.

  • Humanscale Freedom chair
Pros * headrest is very helpful and works in combination with the recline to reduce upper back and neck tension * lack of locking recline mechanism is intentional-it encourages spinal muscle activity. * seat cylinder has a great range of height adjustment * assembly was easy-chair comes in two parts, just put the top onto the base. Cons * Not for everyone-should sit in it for at least an hour before deciding (bring a book or a magazine to the store) * The chair forces you into a recline. There is no upright setting. * Arms could be more adjustable-they should come in closer to the sides, and front angle should be adjustable * The advanced arms don’t stay in place well. I find myself unintentionally pushing them out to the sides. * Arms are flimsy and many reviewers on Amazon say they have broken. Do not use them to get up out of the chair. * It’s annoying how the arms tilt up with the back of the chair. Makes it difficult to type and mouse. They should stay horizontal. * Regular seat pan and armrests don’t have enough cushioning. I ordered replacement parts in technogel, which was more expensive than ordering gel with the chair originally. I liked the technogel armrests, but didn’t like the seat cushion. It has a pronounced front lip, which feels like it is forcing you further into a recline. While my SI joint was more relaxed, I noticed increased neck tension at the sides of my skull (near the SCM insertion point). * One of the allen screws on the underside of the seat is 5/64”, while all the other ones on the chair are 7/64”. Did they run out of screws? * They sew the textile over the insertion points for the screws, so you have to cut through the textile to install new arm pads or seat. * Arm pads should be easy to replace, but they put one of the arm pad screws in the back of the arm where it is impossible to access. You must take out the set screws (with an allen key) and pins, and remove the arm. You can then insert an allen wrench and remove the arm pad screw a little bit at a time. * seat pan should extend out farther for taller users * headrest should extend higher up for taller users * headrest should be able to lock in place * does not have any position indicators for seat pan, backrest, headrest or arm rests * leather textiles are too slippery and you slide out of the chair-get wave or lotus fabric. the chair generally does push you out of it somewhat. Adjust the tension so it is less firm. * There is a tension adjustment underneath the chair that they don’t tell you about. * the backrest is not comfortable when adjusting position. If I am leaning back, I need the backrest lower than usual because if it is higher it does not provide adequate lumbar support. Yet when sitting upright I need the backrest higher. * takes six weeks to build (herman miller embody chair takes 5 days, probably because they are a higher volume seller). * Their company has major logistics, communication, and organization issues. When I ordered the chair, the website told me I would be getting an aluminum base. The chair arrived with a plastic base. I contacted customer service and they sent me an aluminum base, which arrived damaged because of poor packaging. They sent another base, but packaged it exactly the same, and it was also damaged. Base #3 arrived in good condition, purely by luck. It was packaged the same way as the other two bases (simply placed in between a few pieces of paper), and the box was damaged along the sides where the base broke through. The base escaped major damage. I was very disappointed in the incompetence of their shipping department during this ordeal. This was not a complicated task, and they managed to screw it up not once, not twice, but three times, after my feedback that the packaging was inadequate. How can they put a heavy aluminum base in a cardboard box and expect it to arrive safely? Have they heard of bubble wrap? * I couldn’t login to the website because it requests a “customer number” and an “invoice number” which I was not given in any of my orders. I had to call customer service and get them to give me the numbers.

  • Most comfortable chair I've ever owned!
I love the adjustability and the way the head rest supports me in every position. Combined with my QuickStand Lite, my office is now my happy place. Thank you Humanscale!
    Alan A.
  • Sturdy and comfortable. Top-notch customer service
I've had this chair for 10 years and couldn't be happier. When I had some issues with the arm rest pads, Humanscale replaced them promptly and free of charge. Highly recommended.

  • The best chair I've used
I was fortunate enough to "inherit" a Freedom chair from someone who was retiring at work. Even though it was used, I liked it right away. So much, that I wanted one for myself at home. I am a writer and spend many hours a day at the computer. This is the only chair I've found really works for me. I had a horrible chair at home. This year, I was redoing my home office and decided that I'd invest in myself. The first purchase was getting the Freedom chair. I was delighted to find that the customized one I bought for myself was even better than the inherited one at work! Later I got myself a new Uplift desk, too. What a difference it makes for me to have both of these items. When I spend a whole day at work, I used to dread having time in my home office. But no longer. I still need a break from the computer, but having the Freedom chair and Uplift desk make a huge difference.
    Sheina M.
  • This is a very good chair
I've been using this chair almost daily for a few years now and I can honestly say that this is the best office chair I have ever owned. The thin seat has retained its shape and is still very comfortable. It started to squeak recently, but after some strategic lubrication, it is as good as new. Buy this chair - you won't be sorry.
    Bill S.
  • Fabulous!
Not a better executive chair available. Adjusts easily to lower back and headrest/ neck as you move your body. Take it from someone that had two neck surgeries!
    Tom K.
  • Great chair for long work days
Can't beat this chair. I unfortunately spend 9 to 12 hours a day at my desk and require a quality chair. This chair meets the (aka my) standards for comfort and has all the right ergonomic technology that promotes good posture. Love the arm rests and how they drop down. Only reason for the 4 stars and not 5 is I wish the chair would lay back a couple more inches when I want to kick my feet up on my desk. I would really rate it at 4.5 stars.
    Matthew H.
  • Love it!
I sit in this chair for hours and hours. I never have any aches or pains as a result. Its adjustability allows me to set it up perfectly for my body.
    Baird H.
  • Freedom Headrest vs Herman Miller
I had a Herman Miller for several years and my lower back issues did not improve. Freedom Headrest has given relief.
    John K.
  • Easy comfort
This is a very comfortable chair for long hours of desk work. The clever design means the chair automatically adjusts to your movement

  • Awesome chair!
I've used this chair for over 20 years. When the arm rests had a problem, HumanScale worked with me to get another set of arm rests installed (a little complicated due to the older model of the chair). I really appreciated their customer service dedication in resolving the issue. It's been a dream chair!
    Kathy S.
  • So happy to have one!
After working for Humanscale many years ago. I was determined to get a Freedom chair when space would allow me to have an office. It was delivered very quickly and it is easy to use and so comfortable! I'm so happy making this purchase. I cannot recommend the chairs more.
    Kyle T.
  • Best Chair I Ever Sat In
I love this chair. It is easy to use and adjust, and it feels great!
    Evan D.
  • This chair is invigorating
I have had over 20 different office chairs in the 26 years that I have been practicing law, some were awful some were okay. The Freedom chair is the first one that seems to be a perfect combination of comfort and proper posture. My low back does not hurt after hours of sitting and I actually feel more energized throughout the day. Great chair, great company.
    Alexander H.
  • Fantastic chair
The most comfortable office chair I have ever used in the last 40 years!
    Frederic R.
  • So far so good
The chair totally works well for my back. Every time when I lay back, I feel so good that I made my choice to buy it. It obviously reduced my muscle pain. I am a programmer as you can imagine how long I spent my life on the chair. It is a good purchase definitely.
    Jon S.
  • Top quality. Helped relieve back pain.
I sit a lot and have chronic lower back pain. This chair always intrigued me, but I was hesitant to spend the high amount of money on it. I knew it was comfortable to sit in, but would it actually relieve my back pain? I didn't want to spend money on just a "comfortable" chair, but I'd pay anything to get pain relief. I eventually made the purchase and couldn't be happier. It has helped with my posture and allows my back muscles to release and not be under strain all the time. It's not a cure-all on its own, but without it, I would never have gotten my back muscles the relief they needed. In addition, the fabric and build are of top quality.
    Jason G.
  • Most Amazing Office Chair EVER!
I researched my next office chair for over two years before deciding on the Freedom Chair. It is without a doubt the most comfortable, supportive chair I have ever used at work. I'd love to have one for home office as well!
    Jon P.
  • Stylish & Ergonomic
The chair is stylish for an executive's office as well as extremely comfortable and ergonomic.
    Karen A.
  • Never ever better
I will never buy another brand of chair for myself or staff again. These products are comfortable, hold up to years of use, and best of all, noone ever complains about a painful back. Keep up the good work!
    Robin L.
  • good but not great..
This is a good chair. Personally I was unable to figure out the foot rest attachment so I did not install it correctly. As far as the materials used they are top notch. I do wish the adjustments were a little more flexible, however... There is no way to adjust the tension of the recline (on my model) Better than any AERON but not the BEST chair I have ever used.
    George N.
  • Nice chair with some issues
It has lasted a long time and is comfortable. The gel arm pads wore out and we replaced them. The arm pad brackets broke and we replaced them under warranty.
    Stephen T.
  • As advertised
Chair gives very good support in the lower back area and when you lean back it cradles your neck and head very well. I opted for the ultra expensive leather sight unseen, and personally I probably would have stuck with the mid range material. If you do have a hardwood floor I would suggest you consider the locking casters. I bought the wood floor ones, and they are not really 'soft' or at least not soft enough to increase the resistance on a wood floor enough. Going through support to confirm I was shipped the right thing at the moment, but I was told they are not rubbery by design like other chairs. Time will tell on the durability of the chair overall, so far it seems pretty solid.
    John P.
  • Worth working for
The most inviting seat in the house and beautiful to boot, what you would call attractive, a good thing for getting to work. Sorry I can't see it while I'm sitting in it. Only gripe is the fragile quality of the armrests (covering tears easily) and front corners of the seat tray (don't launch yourself out of the chair with your hands!).
    ProfessoRex H.
  • A Chair you can live in
This is a chair you could live in. Nothing is better than the comfort-ability of a Freedom Headrest. This chair supports you in every aspect, feels like you float on a cloud. I love it!!
    Daniel W.
  • The best chair I've sat in!
My previous non-ergonomic chair lasted me more than 10 years. I had to replace it because of tear and wear. Wish I had done so earlier! The Freedom Headrest feels and fits like a glove. No more sore lower back and neck. It just cradles my body and allows me to work more effective. I totally recommend this chair to anybody working extended hours sitting at a desk.
    Jorge M.
  • A must have
Personally, for me, the chair would not be complete without the headrest ... I think you must order the headrest.
    Jim C.
  • Very Impressive
Very professional looking, extreamly comfortable, highly recommend.
    Robert M.
  • Fantastic Chair
I have used several chairs throughout my career and none of them come close to the comfort and ergonomics of the Freedom Chair. Sure, the design is nice looking and materials are of high-quality but what matters most is that I feel great after a 12hr work day, which has been a problem in the past.
    patrick n.
  • Awesome chair for my stand up desk. Much more comfortable for me than our Herman Miller chairs. I love leaning back while working on my computer. Can do so for hours without fatigue.
    Renee M.
  • I researched them all this was the best!
I had a back problem and I have to be at a computer alot of the time. This chair changed my working experience overnight!

  • Fantastic
Everyone in our office loves the chairs. Considering the warranties and service calls, we will be happy to continue ordering from Humanscale in the future.

  • It was worth every penny!
I was nervous to spend close to $1000 on an office chair and I thought my wife would never approve. I needed someone to tell me it was ok to spend that much money on an office chair. When we spoke about it, she actually sold me on buying it. She said, "you spend over 8 hours a day in that chair 5 days a week. You need to be comfortable. It that chair is going to help reduce your back pain, then it will be the best money I could spend." This chair naturally forces me to sit in a better posture. It is comfortable, is holding up way better than expected and makes sitting in my home office very manageable. I promote this product to anyone that asks. It is worth every penny.
    Dennis E.
  • The Perfect Chair!
    Alan M.
  • Super chair
I love the chair, especially with the extra height option. I'm tall and it's difficult to find chairs that "fit".
    HENRY C.
  • Excellent Chair!
This chair is super comfortable, and looks great! We really enjoyed being able to customize the look to fit our office. Great chair, provides great lower back support. Highly recommend!
    Angela S.
  • Love This Chair
I've had this chair for quite awhile now and use it everyday. It's very comfortable and has not shown any signs of wear and tear. Everyone should have one.
