NEW YORK, March 3, 2009 — Humanscale’s Liberty Side chair, Access Rail and CPU600 have been recognized by the 2008 Green Dot Awards for their exceptionally sustainable designs. The Green Dot Awards—which strive to reward and promote forward-thinking businesses that create environmentally friendly products or services—received thousands of entries from more than 25 countries.
The use of 100% recycled and 100% recyclable aluminum is integral to the design of each of Humanscale’s Green Dot-honored products. The Liberty Side Chair, Access Rail and CPU600 are all made primarily of aluminum—Humanscale’s material of choice because it can be infinitely recycled and because it boasts an intrinsic and ever-increasing scrap value, which increases the likelihood that it will be recycled. In addition, the energy—and, consequently, greenhouse gases—associated with aluminum recycling is just 5% of that linked to virgin smelted aluminum.
Humanscale’s Liberty Side chair, designed by Niels Diffrient as a complement to his multi-award winning Liberty Task and Conference chair, offers beautiful styling and uncompromising comfort for side chair applications. Overall, the Greenguard-Certified Liberty Side chair contains 85% recycled content and can help projects earn valuable credits toward LEED certification.
Designed by the Humanscale Design Studio as a series of rails and posts that can be infinitely configured to fit any workstation, the Access Rail allows users to mount and ergonomically position work tools—including monitors, task lights, telephones and printers—while clearing valuable desktop space. It boasts 97% recycled content overall and may be integral in the achievement of LEED credits.
The CPU600, also designed by the Humanscale Design Studio, is an easy-to-install, under-desk-mounted CPU holder that provides convenient, ergonomic access to cables, ports and drives while storing the CPU off the floor for a safer and cleaner work environment. Its 360-degree swivel and horizontal glides bring the CPU within easy reach and eliminate the user’s need to assume awkward positions to access ports and drives. The CPU600 contains 51% recycled content by weight.
