Humanscale to Feature Innovative Seating Line at Orgatec 2012
Ergonomics Leader Will Showcase Three Chair Innovations: New Diffrient Smart™ and Freedom® 2.0, and the Brilliantly Simple Diffrient World®
COLOGNE, GERMANY, October 23, 2012 — Worldwide ergonomics leader Humanscale will showcase its latest task seating offerings—including the Diffrient Smart, Freedom 2.0 and Diffrient World chairs—at Orgatec 2012. Humanscale first revolutionized the task seating industry with the release of its Freedom chair—which has now sold more than a million units—in 2000. Since then, in all its task chairs, Humanscale has eliminated the clumsy levers and knobs for manual adjustments found in traditional task chairs and instead implemented its signature, weight-sensitive recline.
Designed by the legendary Niels Diffrient, the Diffrient Smart chair has a minimal aesthetic and all the distinctive features of the Humanscale task seating line, such as the weight-sensitive recline and unique Form-Sensing Mesh Technology backrest—with ultimate ease of use and sophisticated technology. Like a tailored shirt, Diffrient Smart takes on the shape of the sitter’s back to provide custom lumbar support for users without having to make any adjustments manually. An elegant embodiment of Humanscale’s commitment to sustainability, the Diffrient Smart chair can contribute to valuable LEED credits, is made predominantly of recycled aluminum, is lighter and features far fewer parts than traditionally designed chairs.
After revolutionizing task seating with the Freedom chair, Humanscale has updated the iconic design with a few noted improvements with Freedom 2.0. For enhanced stability and functionality for the user, the Freedom 2.0 chair features a new back shell design. It also offers a new arm assembly design that provides greater efficiency and smoother, one-handed adjustment of the synchronous armrests. In addition, the armrests themselves are improved with pivoted, button-free functionality. Even the Freedom chair’s much-celebrated aesthetic has been enhanced with new features, including box stitching on the leather cushions that allows for a cleaner look and an even more comfortable fit, and silver color options.
Now available to the European market, the Diffrient World chair implements Humanscale’s signature, weight-sensitive recline, tailored lumbar support and Form-Sensing Mesh Technology—all with just 25 pounds in weight (half the weight of traditional task chairs) and only eight major parts.
The Diffrient Smart, Freedom 2.0 and Diffrient World chairs will all be available to experience in-person at Hall 6.1, Stand: A081 at Orgatec 2012.
