Humanscale Features Diffrient World Chair at IIDEX NeoCon 2011
Award-Winning Task Chair Combines Exceptional Simplicity, Performance and Sustainability
NEW YORK, September 22, 2011 — Humanscale’s Diffrient World chair, designed by the legendary Niels Diffrient, will be on display at IIDEX NeoCon 2011. Representing ultimate simplicity in a high-performance task chair, Diffrient World sets an exciting new bar in sustainable task seating design, due in great part to a significant new advance in dynamic recline technology.
Made from just eight major parts and weighing only 25 pounds, Diffrient World achieves Humanscale’s signature weight-sensitive recline through an innovative new design that functions without a mechanism. Utilizing two frame components, the user’s body weight, and the laws of physics, Diffrient World’s mechanism-free recline automatically adjusts to the needs of each user. This genius design provides appropriate levels of recline resistance without locks, dials or manual controls.
Like its older sibling, the award-winning Liberty chair, Diffrient World features Form-Sensing Mesh Technology that ensures perfect lumbar support for every user without the bulky and often uncomfortable external lumbar devices found on all other mesh chairs. Additionally, a mesh seat pan with a frameless front edge provides soft support under the thighs for all-day sitting comfort.
Achieving high levels of performance and functionality with just 80 parts overall―less than one-third the parts of traditional task chairs―Diffrient World is built for long-term durability far exceeding that of its competitors. With fewer parts, controls and mechanisms, Diffrient World has fewer things that can go wrong over time. As such, it is backed by an industry-best 15-year, 24/7 warranty.
The chair’s ultra-light weight and minimal-part design require significantly less raw material and fewer manufacturing processes than any other high-performance task chair. As a result, two to three Diffrient World chairs have the same overall environmental impact as a single traditional task chair. Its durability and modularity further minimize its carbon footprint to ensure a long life of service. And when the chair does finally need to be replaced, its simple design makes disassembly a snap so that 97% of its components can easily be recycled.
Diffrient World offers fixed or adjustable armrests that move with the sitter for continuous ergonomic support during recline. An armless model is also available, along with an optional upholstered seat cushion. The chair is available in a variety of mesh styles and colors, along with three frame color options: Black, White and Gray.
The recipient of the ‘Best of the Best’ distinction from the prestigious Red Dot Awards, Diffrient World is now shipping with a U.S. list price starting at $740.
