NEW YORK, June 4, 2009 — Humanscale has earned a record-setting five Citations of Excellence in Buildings magazine’s Product Innovations Awards. Never before has one company earned so many citations in a given year.

Humanscale is debuting more products in 2009 than any other year since its founding in 1983, including the five citation honorees: the Diffrient World chair, M2 monitor arm, Element LED task light, Humanair air purifier, and 6G keyboard mechanism. Each citation-earner is now eligible for a Product Innovations Grand Prize, which will be announced at NeoCon 2009.

Says Buildings Managing Editor Leah B. Garris, “We were especially impressed with the caliber of the entries this year. The innovation and technology behind these products made them stand out.”

The most notable of Humanscale’s honored products is the much-anticipated Diffrient World chair—Humanscale’s latest high-performance task chair from design legend Niels Diffrient. Setting a new bar in sustainable task seating design—due in great part to a significant new advance in dynamic recline technology that eliminates the need for a mechanism—the new mesh seating solution is made of just eight major components, reflecting a great advance in simplified design.

The M2 monitor arm offers a longer life, a more streamlined aesthetic, and a more eco- and value-conscious choice than any current-generation monitor arm. Thanks to a revolutionary mechanical spring—which eliminates the bulky, failure-prone gas cylinders of current-generation dynamic monitor arms—the M2 represents the most sustainable and attractive dynamic monitor arm solution available, without compromising performance.

Element represents groundbreaking advancements in LED technology, and is the first of its kind to meet all the Department of Energy’s criteria for an LED task light. With a single, multi-chip high-intensity light-emitting diode, Element overcomes the shortcomings of its contemporaries, including problematic multiple shadows caused by a series or cluster of LEDs. Slated to earn the Energy Star label, Element draws only seven watts of power.

The Humanair air purifier utilizes patented Clean Air Zone technology to create a bubble of clean air around deskbound workers, purifying air on a small scale and providing clean air where it’s needed most—where the user breathes. A much more efficient way to purify air than its large-scale counterparts, Humanair produces no ozone and operates in virtual silence while providing air that is more than 99% pure.

The centerpiece of the ultimate keyboard support system, the 6G is the slimmest and most sustainable high-performance articulating keyboard mechanism to date. The first keyboard mech available in a contemporary white finish in addition to standard black, the 6G provides uncompromised adjustability and stability in a design utilizing 30% less steel than comparable solutions.
