New York, June 4, 2010 — Humanscale takes on the indoor air crisis with one of its latest innovations: a high-performance air purifier that features the most effective air purifying technology in the world. The new Humanair Personal Zone Air Purifier utilizes exciting Clean Air Zone Technology that is poised to set a new bar for air purification and start a new trend in the contract interior and hospitality industries.

The Environmental Protection Agency has identified indoor air quality as one of the top five most urgent environmental risks to public health, and data shows there’s a clear link between breathing issues and productivity on the job. The American Lung Association says asthma and breathing problems account for approximately 24.5 million missed work days each year, and the Asthma and Allergy Foundation indicates asthma and allergies lead to $8 billion in lost productivity in the U.S workplace annually. What’s more, the ALA says half of the U.S. population is breathing unhealthy amounts of air pollution.

Current air purifiers fail to adequately address the unhealthy air crisis, falling short in office settings in particular. Designed to clean rooms over time by re-circulating clean air, most air purifiers are ineffective in the large spaces typical of most office environments, where the volume of air is simply too large to effectively clean with portable units. Adding HEPA-quality filtration to HVAC units is extremely costly and inefficient, and HEPA-based products are noisy and require frequent and expensive filter replacement. In addition, traditional electrostatic precipitator devices, also called ionizers, are inefficient and produce excessive ozone, a toxic gas that can harm the lungs.

The Humanair Personal Zone Air Purifier employs patented Clean Air Zone Technology to provide clean air to office workers in an entirely new and innovative way. The Personal Zone purifier operates by directing clean air exactly where it’s needed: where the user breathes. Since most office workers spend hours a day working on a computer, creating a ‘Clean Air Zone’ around every worker is by far the most effective and efficient way to deliver clean air. Plus, working in a bubble of ultra pure air promotes good health from the inside out and allows workers to breathe easier, feel more refreshed, and perform better on the job.

The Humanair Personal Zone purifier removes more than 99% of airborne toxins and contaminants. It’s all possible thanks to unique design and DEP Technology developed in Sweden, which utilizes a tightly coiled paper filter that has more surface area for collecting dust and particles than any other air purification method. And best of all, when the paper filter becomes saturated, it can be easily vacuumed clean and re-used or recycled with other paper products.

Complementing the trend toward sustainability, the Humanair Personal Zone Air Purifier consumes just 22 watts of power. In fact, it exceeds Energy Star requirements by 200%, far exceeding the clean air efficiency of any other air purifying technology. Plus, it operates in virtual silence, produces no ozone, and creates no noticeable draft, so it can be unobtrusively placed on desks or bedside tables.

The Humanair Personal Zone Air Purifier’s patented technology is already getting applause: It received a Buildings Magazine Product Innovations Awards Grand Prize at the 2009 NeoCon World's Trade Fair, Popular Science called it “A desktop air purifier with industrial strength,” and the Museum of Modern Art featured a prototype in its exhibition Design and the Elastic Mind; the device was among 200 designs displayed that merged scientific research with human limitations, habits and aspirations.

Carrying a suggested retail price of $299, the Humanair Personal Zone Air Purifier is available in three sleek finishes: Black, White and Metallic Red. It will be on display at the 2010 NeoCon World’s Trade Fair, June 14 – 16 in Chicago.
