NEW YORK, November 24, 2009 — Humanscale’s Cinto chair and Diffrient Work Light II have each received a 2009 Green GOOD DESIGN Award. Among hundreds of submissions from more than 40 nations worldwide, the ultra-sustainable stacking chair and task light were selected as outstanding examples of green design.

The Green GOOD DESIGN Awards are organized by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design, and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies. According to Kieran Conlon, Director and COO of The European Centre, Green GOOD DESIGN's mission is “to find the most innovative design approach for new products, buildings, and environments that center on the idea of repairing our world with sustainable and ecological alternatives.”

As such, earning a Green GOOD DESIGN award is a tribute to the incredible sustainability of Cinto and the Diffrient Work Light II—two of the greenest products in their respective categories.

The Cinto chair is 100% recyclable. It is made of a steel tube frame, elastomer belt, and injection-molded polypropylene seat and back, and is designed for quick, easy disassembly. Molded into the bottom of each Cinto is a phone number for owners to call when their chair reaches the end of its useful life, at which time Humanscale will provide assistance to ensure proper recycling.

The Diffrient Work Light II is constructed primarily of 100% recycled aluminum and contains 90% recycled content. It is specifically designed to accommodate the latest-generation compact fluorescent bulbs, which consume 75% less energy and last up to 10 times longer than comparable incandescent bulbs. And when used as part of a dual-lighting scheme, the Diffrient Work Light II can contribute to energy savings of more than 50%.

The Green GOOD DESIGN Awards recognize innovative products that promote energy savings, recycling and greater sustainability in all sectors of industry, from consumer goods, furniture, transportation, equipment, construction materials, printing and packaging to household and business products. In 2010 the GOOD DESIGN Awards will celebrate their 60th anniversary.
