New York, April 25, 2008 — Humanscale Freedom and Liberty chairs can now be outfitted with two stylish and sustainable new textiles: Bridget Stripe and Squiggle, by award-winning designers Elizabeth Whelan and Lori Weitzner, respectively. The high-performance patterned textiles are part of Humanscale’s new Movement collection. Both high-performance fabrics team durability, sustainability and beauty to complement a wide variety of environments.
Whelan’s Bridget Stripe boasts a five-color stripe pattern to create an undisrupted movement across the surface of the fabric and over the shape of the chair in either horizontal or vertical directions. Available in five colorways—Carmine, Flax, Kohl, Midnight and Smoke—and featuring a 50-stripe repeat, Bridget Stripe is composed of 78% merino wool, a highly renewable fiber known for its brilliant color, natural stretch and wonderful hand. Thin polyester (13%) and nylon (9%) are added for strength and durability. Notably, the fabric surpassed 150,000 double rubs on the Wyzenbeek test—an exceptional achievement for wool—and achieved 75,000 cycles on the Martindale test.
Weitzner’s Squiggle, composed of 100% recycled polyester, features an innovative weave structure that creates a modern, organic wave pattern resembling ripples in a body of water. Squiggle is available in nine rich colorways, including Ash, Chocolate, Sand, Espresso, Herb, Indigo, Navy, Cinnabar and Tangerine, and can be applied both horizontally and vertically to Humanscale seating.Consistent with Humanscale’s requirement for ultra durability, the fabric surpassed 150,000 double rubs on the Wyzenbeek test and meets all of the quality standards set by the Association for Contract Textiles.
